What are Remotely Managed read meters?

Remotely read meters are:
 
  • Smarter: They provide remote reading of consumption and operation.
  • More flexible: They help to adapt the contracted tariffs to consumption habits.
  • More efficient: They provide information regarding consumption to help with savings and responsible energy use.
 
To have a remotely managed meter installed does not imply that the reading system is operational. From February 2014 the Distributing companies have begun to send Endesa Energía XXI information regarding Customers who have a Remotely Managed meter with operational remote reading in order to begin monthly billing using actual readings as indicated in Royal Decree 1718/2012 dated 28 December.
 
The installation of the new Remotely Managed read meters is covered in Royal Decree 1110/2007, Order ITC 3860/2007 and IET 290/2012 which obliges the Distributing companies to substitute the current meters covering powers under or equal to 15 kW for others with remote reading capability before 2018.
