What are the advantages and disadvantages of the billing per hour system?

The main advantages of the billing per hour system are as follows:

  • The cost of electricity is determined in the energy market.
  • This enables you to adapt your consumption to the lower cost hours and therefore save on your electricity bill.

However, there are also some disadvantages to this new billing system:

  • In order to take advantage of the hours in which the cost of energy is cheaper, you have to be aware of the price of electricity each hour of the day.  Remember that REE publishes the price of electricity per hour every day from 20:15 h the day before on its website www.ree.es. 
  • Even though you know when electricity is cheaper, perhaps you are not able to change your consumption habits.
  • You do not have a single price for electricity throughout the entire billing period.
